The Howard Natural History Museum is a transformative cultural destination planned for Riverside County, California. Drawing from the extensive collection of a conservationist, the museum will showcase over 10,000 specimens through immersive exhibits, interactive programming, and community-centered experiences.
Opening is planned for 2027, with a capital budget of $27.75 million and a phased implementation across planning, construction, and exhibit installation.
The 23,000 sq ft facility sits on a 7-acre site adjacent to I-10, ensuring high visibility and regional access. Landmark architectural features include a light-filled clerestory and a signature entry experience, with indoor exhibits integrated with interpretive walking trails and outdoor spaces.
Over 1,500 rotating nature specimens on display, supported by state-of-the-art interactive multimedia installations and hands-on STEAM programs incorporating AR/VR. Family-oriented programming, live demonstrations, and citizen science initiatives round out a full visitor experience.
K–12 field trips aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), workshops and after-school classes on ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and climate change. A public lecture series, family science days, and conservation-driven community outreach complement inclusive programming including multilingual materials and sensory-friendly experiences.
